Next is Shizuoka!【Shizuoka City Museum of Art】

Hallo everyone! KONNICHIWA! I'm the staff of Dentoya Akatsuki who loves traditional techniques!! Recently, we have been busy preparing for Japan Expo! We asked draw a manga about how we decided to exhibit at Japan Expo! Then we had asked for translating it into French and made a leaflet so that we could give it to the locals. In addition, we are making a background curtain for the exhibition. By the way, there is a new consignment sale from July 2, 2022! It is Shizuoka City Museum of Art. The content of the exhibition is "THE HEROES - Chronicles of the Warriors : Japanese Swords x Ukiyo-e" from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

This "THE HEROES Sword x Ukiyo-e" exhibition will be the third time following Tokyo and Niigata. "From the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, we exhibited for the first time 118 excellent samurai paintings depicting the brilliant activities of the heroes who appear in the war chronicle and the legend of heroism. We will exhibit it together with 27 handguards designed with a common image in the theme and composition. " There are so many types of designs in the handguard! The handguard of Japanese sword is this part.

It has the role of protecting the hands and adjusting the center of balance between the blade and the handle. Besides the practical meaning, the design is quite important because it is a part that is considered to have the highest artistic value among Japanese swords. It is divided into various types depending on the time of production and the creator. If it divided by creator, there are various types such as "Toshotsuba" made by swordsmith, and "Kachushitsuba" made by an armor craftsman. In addition, there are five types of patterns that are typical: plants, family crests, people, animals, and others.

By the way, at this exhibition, we will also sell the Japanese paper earrings and pierced earrings [-Sukimatoi-] on consignment!!! The design to be sold is "Wisteria flowers". This is based on the Japanese sword handguard.

In addition, we will consign the Tamahagane series. Please have a look!

By the way, I have written about Ukiyo-e several times. Ukiyo-e was not art in the past. It wasn't an art that the artist was free to draw, as it was drawn under the producer instructions. However, in modern times, it is treated as art, and it has become a nationally designated traditional craft of Tokyo under the name "Edo woodblock print". This time, I would like to introduce the beauty of Ukiyo-e. That is the beauty of "color" and "gradation". They carve as many woodblocks as there are colors to use. Yes, it takes a lot of time and effort. The raw materials for paints are mainly natural materials such as plants and minerals. The four basic colors of red, blue, yellow, and black are the basic colors, and by mixing them or changing the material, they have created an infinite number of color variations. Come to think of it, the four basic colors of modern printing are magenta, cyan, yellow, and black. It's almost the same!! And the expression of Ukiyo-e is "line". There is always a contour line. Please take a look at the beauty of the lines, the use of colors, and the gradation. Now, we have another notice. "Tamahagane hair elastics" had been postponed at the stage of price increase in April, but due to the sharp rise in material prices and transportation prices, the price will be increased from 2,560 yen to 2,970 yen (tax included) from this July. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding.
